You type "Mexican Netflix series" into Google and you still end up with shows like Narcos or Monarca, full of corruption or drug cartel dramas with sex, drugs, and rock and roll! You know what? You're right to complain, because Mexico isn't just about corruption and drug cartels. Mexico also boasts a rich culture, family stories, delicious food, a touch of the esoteric, and so much more. To answer the age-old question, "Which Netflix series should I watch?", we at Lili et Gordo , a Mexican food shop, thought we'd share five Mexican series that will immerse you in the essence of Mexico.

Netflix's No. 1 Mexican Series: The House of Flowers (La Casa de las Flores)

Mexican Netflix series: La Casa de las Flores When a corpse threatens to tear a family apart. That corpse is Roberta, the mistress of Ernesto De la Mora, the patriarch, of course, of the De la Mora family, a wealthy family of florists who seem perfect in every way. Before hanging herself in the family shop, Roberta left a letter for Virginia, Ernesto's wife. A letter that reveals the first secret in a long series of others that will be unveiled about this family, who will have no choice but to lift the veil of appearances. Why did we love this Mexican series ? Because it demonstrates that secrets and taboos only bind us further and that the truth will always come to light in the end. (Watch on Netflix)

Mexican Netflix series no. 2: Club of Crows (Club de Cuervos)

Mexican Netflix series Club de Cuervos If you're a soccer fan, you'll love this series. It tells the story of the fictional soccer club The Cuervos, which is experiencing an identity crisis following the death of its owner, Salvador Iglesias. In a male-dominated culture, Salvador's son, Chava, is elected the club's new president, even though his sister, Isabel, is said to be more capable of leading it. As Chava's poor decision-making escalates and strains relationships within the team, Isabel vows to do everything in her power to take over the presidency of her late father's club. Why did we love this Mexican series ? Because it dismantles the stereotype of male leadership and demonstrates that leadership isn't defined by gender, but rather by skills that both women and men possess. The series also illustrates, on a smaller scale, the negative impact of poor leadership on a group. ( Watch on Netflix )

Mexican Netflix series no. 3: Luis Miguel, the series

Mexican Netflix series Luis Miguel This autobiographical series tells the story of singer Luis Miguel, also known as El Sol de México (The Sun of Mexico), who is nothing less than an icon in Latin America. The series recounts his exceptional musical journey, largely attributed to his father, Luis Rey, who abandoned his own musical career to dedicate himself to his son's. It may seem like a beautiful story at first glance, but unfortunately, the story isn't as rosy as it appears. Struggling with financial problems, Luis Rey saw his son's talent as the solution to all his woes. Luis Rey then imposed a regime of near terror to push his son to the top. Why did we love this Mexican series about Luis Miguel? It gave us insight into the darker side of a beloved singer and made us realize the absurdity of trying to live one's dream life through someone else's, for whom that life isn't so dreamy. Mexican Netflix series no. 4: Diableros

Mexican Netflix series diablero Although a popular sun destination, Mexico is also a haven for those fascinated by esotericism and religion. Having inhabited Mexico's ancestral lands, the Aztecs and their polytheistic religion continue to fascinate today. The series Diableros isn't about the Aztecs, but it will take you on a journey into the dark world of fallen souls. Based on the book El Diablo me obligó by Mexican writer Francisco Haghenbeck, Diableros tells the story of a young priest, Father Ramiro Ventura, who enlists the help of a demon hunter and a paranormal expert to search for a girl kidnapped in Mexico City's underworld. Why did we love this Mexican series ? Perhaps because it reminds us of the darker side of Aztec religion, which, while believing in multiple gods, also believed in numerous demons, whom it warded off through human sacrifices.
